Partner of the Bocuse d’Or Contest and the Patisserie World Cup 2005

The Paul Bocuse Institute is a partner of the Bocuse d’Or Contest and of the Patisserie World Cup. Because this event is one of the most exceptional competitions in terms of Culinary Artistry, it is only natural that we participate. This is especially true for our students, as their skills and unique training are well adapted to provide professional assistance to the contestants.
Owing to the excellence of these events and the renown of the prestigious international competitors, the Bocuse d’Or and the Patisserie World Cup are in perfect harmony with our values and teaching at the Paul Bocuse Institute.

Excellence: our rigorously selected students receive high quality practical instruction (cooking, pastry, service, hotel trade…) and theory (management, personal development) from highly qualified professors, who are renowned professionals (including 2 ‘Meilleur Ouvrier de France’) and aknowleged specialists (University lecturers, international consultants).

International: With an international perspective on all of our activities, the Institute welcomes 300 students from 5 continents representing 40 nationalities. This variety of cultures enriches our teaching and commands our respect.

Prestige:  The innovative spirit, dynamism, and desire to excel implied by this contest are values which we endeavour to instil into our students in order that these qualities be reinforced throughout the graduate’s professional career.  It is also imperative that our Institute take part in all that contributes to the transmission of the culinary arts around the world.
Finally, it seems appropriate that our students be integrated within the event, as commis chefs or translators, in order to welcome the participants on certain stands or in the Village, and to help the competitors to the best of their abilities. In effect, these chefs offer a tremendous support to our students, from the moment they are welcomed on stage, adding to their professional training, proposing work experience and sometimes offering them their first job after graduation from the Institute.

What makes us unique, in addition to our teaching and our students:

  • Our honorary members: Paul Bocuse, Honorary President and Gérard Pélisson, co-founder and CEO of Groupe Accor,
  • Our infrastructure: the Château Vivier, a neo-gothic castle built at the end of the 19th century which houses our student-run restaurant and reception rooms; the first hotel-school in Europe: Sofitel Royal, situated in Place Bellecour, in the heart of Lyon, where our students train in a real hotel environment; a 5000 sq. metres modern building, which contains an amphitheatre for demonstrations, as well as classrooms, 8 kitchens, 3 pastry laboratories, 1 bakers oven, 2 computer rooms and 3 student-run restaurants, and more.
A network of 800 past alumni all over the world, all of whom are qualified professionals, working in the most reputed establishments and who support the Institute and its students
